My name is: Alex Taylor.
My stomping ground is: Los Angeles.
I’m known for being: Co-founder & co-CEO of Perelel and a huge animal lover.
I'm talking about: Perelel!
You can find it at: perelelhealth.com.
Before I launched this, I was: President and global editor-in-chief of Who What Wear, Byrdie and MyDomaine and, after that, I was the head of beauty, activewear. and wellness at Free People.
My interest was sparked when: Growing up in LA, I've always been interested in health and wellness. As I was struggling through postpartum after giving birth to my son, while also managing a thyroid disease, I felt failed by the information and resources available to me at every twist and turn. I never knew what vitamins to take, where to find credible information, who to trust—it was all so confusing and it shouldn't be that way. It was around this time that I met my co-founder, Tori. Together, we knew there was a better way to support women in the health and wellness space. We teamed up with a holistic, Santa Monica-based OB/GYN, Dr. Banafsheh Bayati, to create Perelel, which is a line of targeted vitamin bundles that support women wherever they are in their hormonal lifecycle. We also brought on a team of Eastern and Western doctors and practitioners with different specialties to run point on formulation with our co-founder, Dr. Bayati. This same team also to creates all of the content and resources I couldn't find before we launched Perelel. We have a product for all women of reproductive age that supports their general health called our Women's Daily Vitamin Trio (it bundles a multivitamin with an omega and a beauty blend capsule), vitamins to support fertility, vitamin bundles for each trimester of pregnancy (because the nutrients mom and baby need throughout a pregnancy change from trimester to trimester), as well as a vitamins for postpartum and moms to young children.
What makes it different is: Perelel is the first and only OB/GYN-founded (and created!) women's vitamin. We are the only brand offering targeted nutrition to support each stage of womanhood and we pride ourselves on being one of the cleanest offerings on the market.
Our secret ingredient is: Equal parts love, support and trust. My co-founders and I are all moms and we bring a sense of empathy and integrity to all that we do as a company. While we’re deeply committed to giving back and we’re passionate about creating a brand with products and content that women can trust, our greater vision is to build a platform that genuinely supports them and makes them feel seen.
My favorite lesser-known detail is: For every subscription, we donate a supply of our own prenatal vitamins to underserved women in the United States who lack access to high-quality prenatal care. It’s expensive to donate our own inventory, but it only felt right. Our hope is to democratize access to health and wellness resources for all women. (And while the intention is in the right place, sadly many brands with 1:1 models will donate a third party product of lesser quality, which just didn’t sit well with us.)
It’s especially important to boost our health right now because: Health truly is the greatest wealth. Every breath we take is a miracle and if we’re privileged enough to hold space and resources to nurture our bodies, we should never take that for granted.
My favorite new ritual for self-care is: Before bed, I've been enjoying a big cup of fresh herbal (caffeine-free!) tea with a little honey from Flamingo Estate. It relaxes me and satisfies my sweet tooth.
