I was inspired to create it when: I grew up by the beach and am very concerned about the plight of the oceans. I felt that if I could create a brand that would raise awareness and contribute to protecting and restoring the oceans, I would achieve more than I could as a private individual. At the same time, I could see that beauty and wellness were merging and that there was a white space in the market for clean beauty that was also clinically proven, so we created One Ocean Beauty.

Our mission is: To communicate to customers about clean beauty and to help our oceans through our partnership with Oceana, the largest organization dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans. We committed $250,000 as a flat donation to Oceana from the start, so we can be completely transparent with customers about our philanthropy.

What makes it special is: There are many facets of One Ocean Beauty that make the brand unique. Our formulations are marine-based, clean, sustainable and clinically proven. We use marine active ingredients from the world’s oceans, selected for their survival mechanisms and skincare benefits. Not only are the formulations clean to the highest standard, but they are also clinically proven to be effective through in vitro and in vivo lab tests, which is very unusual. Our production is sustainable and our inner and outer packaging is recyclable. Plus, our shipping materials are from sustainable forestry.

When it comes to sustainability, we’re all about: We believe that sustainability is no longer a choice, but a necessity. Our production is completely sustainable. Through Blue Biotechnology, we take a single cell and reproduce our marine actives in the lab vs. large-scale harvesting, so we never harm the oceans or their biodiversity.

My favorite secret detail is: The wood caps on our jars and bottles. These were inspired by a piece of driftwood I found on the beach at Montauk. Each one is slightly different in color and grain, and this makes every single product unique.

In the current crisis, while we’re all stuck at home, I recommend: Giving yourself an at home facial. Fifteen minutes can make you and your skin feel and look instantly better. It’s a great morale booster and helps with all those video calls we’re making these days.

Recently, we launched: Our Blue Algae Exfoliating + Detox Mask, which is already a customer favorite. It has a nutrient-rich marine silt base, which works to purify and detox, blue spirulina algae and coconut shell particles (a byproduct of the food industry), which provides a gentle exfoliation.
